Shoe Fund
In December of 1992, WIS Radio and The Salvation Army developed the Shoe Fund to make sure kids had new shoes for when they go back to school during the winter.
This fund is solicited strictly through WIS Radio and their listeners. Funds are then turned into certificates through Lexington School Districts I, II, and III, Richland School Districts I and II, and the Boys & Girls Club of Columbia.
In this effort, parents of children that are on the reduced lunch program receive certificates from their school’s principal or guidance counselor. Hundreds of Midlands children were reached last year through this program and are still smiling today.
